WhatsApp Business

WhatsApp Business Platform send actions

WhatsApp Business is the action-focused complement to the WhatsApp Cloud API connector — exposing five send and read-tracking actions for outbound messaging workflows. No triggers on this connector (inbound messages and status updates come through the WhatsApp Cloud API connector's triggers): Send Text Message (free-form text, valid only inside the 24-hour customer service window), Send Media Message (image, video, audio, document — also requires the open service window), Send Template Message (the pre-approved-template path that works regardless of the 24-hour window — required for business-initiated messages), List Message Templates (returns every approved template on the WABA with their variables and current approval status), Mark Message as Read (marks an inbound message as read, which lets WhatsApp emit the read-receipt to the customer — improves customer-perceived responsiveness). The connection uses the same Meta System User token, phone number ID, and WABA ID as the Cloud API connector — most workflows use both connectors together.

Actions

Do anything WhatsApp Business can do, from a workflow.

Every action accepts dynamic inputs from upstream nodes, whether that's an AI output, a form field, or a search result.

ActionWhat it does
List TemplatesLists approved message templates on your WhatsApp Business Account with their names, languages, and components. Use to populate a template picker before sending.
Mark as ReadSends a read receipt for an inbound WhatsApp message, surfacing the blue double-checks to the sender. Good practice for human-agent handoff UX.
Send MediaSends an image, video, document, or audio file by URL through WhatsApp Business Cloud API. Per-type size and format limits apply; only allowed inside the 24-hour customer service window.
Send Template MessageSends a pre-approved template message (HSM) via WhatsApp Business Cloud API. Required for messaging outside the 24-hour customer service window or to start a conversation.
Send Text MessageSends a free-form text message to a WhatsApp customer; only allowed within the 24-hour customer service window opened by their most recent inbound message. Outside that window, use Send Template Message instead.

Before you build

Three things worth knowing.

Filter at the trigger

Tiny Command counts a run the moment a trigger fires. Filtering early means only matching events spend your usage budget.

Authorize once, reuse anywhere

Connect WhatsApp Business once and every workflow on your account can use its triggers and actions. You don't have to re-auth per workflow.

No JSON to read

Every WhatsApp Business field shows up in the visual picker for downstream nodes. The raw payload is there for power users, optional for everyone else.
