FAQ

Questions about ClickUp + Airtable.

When does Airtable + ClickUp make more sense than just using one or the other?
When Airtable is your content/brief/spec system-of-record (rich linked tables, formulas, attachments) and ClickUp is your sprint/board execution layer (statuses, time tracking, sprints). The pair gives each tool its strength.
How do I keep ClickUp custom-field values in sync with Airtable columns?
In Create Task, map each ClickUp custom_field UUID to the matching Airtable column. UUIDs are looked up once via the List Custom Fields action; cache them as workflow constants.
Can ClickUp status changes flow back into Airtable?
Yes — wire the Task Status Updated trigger from ClickUp to an Update Record action in Airtable. The ClickUp task ID lives in an Airtable column from initial creation so the lookup is direct.
How do I prevent the same Airtable row from spawning two ClickUp tasks if I re-trigger?
Store the ClickUp task ID back into an Airtable "ClickUp Task" column. Branch with an If node: if the column is empty, create; if it has a value, update by ID.
Will Airtable attachments come through as ClickUp attachments?
ClickUp's API takes attachments by URL or by binary upload. The simplest path: pass the Airtable attachment URL in the task description; ClickUp renders the link with a preview for images and common docs.
Can I create subtasks from an Airtable linked-record column?
Yes. Iterate over the linked records, look up each one in its parent table, and call Create Task with parent set to the main task ID. ClickUp nests them as subtasks under the parent.
