Metabase

Metabase open-source BI dashboards

Metabase is the open-source business intelligence platform — connects to your SQL databases (Postgres, MySQL, BigQuery, Snowflake, etc.) and lets non-engineers build dashboards and run queries via a friendly UI. Used by SMBs and startups that need BI without the Looker/Tableau price tag. Tiny Command exposes two actions, no triggers: List Dashboards (every dashboard in the connected Metabase instance), Run Saved Question (execute a previously-saved query/question and return the result set). The connection takes the Metabase instance URL plus a session token or API key. The Run Saved Question pattern is the workhorse for "send the daily KPI numbers to Slack" workflows — analysts build the query once in Metabase, the workflow fires it on a schedule and pipes the result downstream. Metabase Cloud and self-hosted have the same API; the connection picks based on URL.

Actions

Do anything Metabase can do, from a workflow.

Every action accepts dynamic inputs from upstream nodes, whether that's an AI output, a form field, or a search result.

ActionWhat it does
List Metabase DashboardsReturns every dashboard in the connected Metabase instance. Useful for inventory and for resolving dashboard IDs at workflow setup.
Run Metabase Saved QuestionExecutes a saved question with optional template parameters; returns the result rows. The workhorse for "send the daily KPI numbers to Slack" workflows — analysts build the query in Metabase, the workflow fires it on schedule.

Before you build

Three things worth knowing.

Filter at the trigger

Tiny Command counts a run the moment a trigger fires. Filtering early means only matching events spend your usage budget.

Authorize once, reuse anywhere

Connect Metabase once and every workflow on your account can use its triggers and actions. You don't have to re-auth per workflow.

No JSON to read

Every Metabase field shows up in the visual picker for downstream nodes. The raw payload is there for power users, optional for everyone else.

FAQ

Questions about the Metabase integration.

If we missed yours, ping support. We usually reply within an hour.

How do I connect Metabase to Tiny Command?
Open the Tiny Command workflow builder, drop in a Metabase node, and click Connect. Authorize Metabase once and any workflow on your account can use its triggers and actions. Most teams finish the connection in under two minutes.
What Metabase triggers does Tiny Command support?
Tiny Command focuses on outbound actions for Metabase today. Use Tiny Command's universal Webhook or Schedule trigger to start Metabase workflows, then run any Metabase action you need.
What Metabase actions can I run from a workflow?
2 Metabase actions are available out of the box, covering other operations like "List Metabase Dashboards". Every action accepts dynamic inputs from upstream nodes, whether that's a search result, an AI output, or a form field.
Is the Metabase integration real-time?
Metabase actions execute synchronously inside your workflow. Tiny Command waits for Metabase's API to confirm before continuing to the next step, so downstream nodes can rely on the result.
Do I need to write code to use Metabase with Tiny Command?
No. Every Metabase trigger and action is fully configurable from the visual workflow builder. For edge cases that aren't covered, drop in a custom HTTP node and call any Metabase API endpoint directly.
How much does the Metabase integration cost?
There's a free tier you can start on without a credit card. Higher run volumes and team features come with paid plans. The Metabase integration itself has no per-app surcharge.
